{"id":73,"date":"2014-12-17T18:44:51","date_gmt":"2014-12-17T18:44:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hopevalleyrailway.org.uk\/?page_id=73"},"modified":"2025-01-21T22:27:47","modified_gmt":"2025-01-21T22:27:47","slug":"news-updates","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hopevalleyrailway.org.uk\/?page_id=73","title":{"rendered":"News, Events and Links"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><strong>Hope Valley Capacity Scheme (2021-4)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The scheme is designed to remove bottlenecks on the line and allow fast passenger services to overtake slow-moving freight trains. It consists of a new freight passing loop between Bamford and Hathersage, and the doubling of tracks through Dore &amp; Totley station. It should allow more trains to run on the line and improve reliability and capacity for both freight and passengers services. In particular it;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>may allow an increase in the number of fast trains from 2 to 3 per hour<\/li>\n<li>has allowed a stopping train at all stations every hour<\/li>\n<li>allows for longer freight trains<\/li>\n<li>should improve punctuality of all services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Two companies &#8211; Volker Rail\/Story JV and Network Rail &#8211; worked 0n the \u00a3150 million project. The work was scheduled to finish by September 2023 however final touches were still being applied in January 2025. It was, however,\u00a0 operational from March 2024.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><strong>Our Annual General Meeting (2022)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In 2019 Transport for the North (TfN) officially launched its Strategic Transport Plan, which outlines TfN\u2019s vision for transport investment in the North of England over the next 30 years. See <a href=\"https:\/\/hopevalleyrailway.org.uk\/?page_id=28\">Reports and Articles<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><strong>Station extensions (2019)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Grindleford, Hathersage and Hope stations have had their platforms extended.\u00a0 They can now accommodate longer trains with more seats. See the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.networkrail.co.uk\/our-railway-upgrade-plan\/key-projects\/great-north-rail-project\/north-of-england-platform-extension-programme\/\">Network Rail Platform extension Programme<\/a> for details.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><strong>New Ticket Vending Machines (2019)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Northern have installed versatile ticket vending machines at all stations along the line.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>LINKS<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><strong>Walks from the stations<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To allow people to make the most of the Peak District villages on the Hope Valley Line, <strong>Let\u2019s Go Peak District<\/strong> and <strong>The Outdoor City<\/strong> have compiled a collection of five <a href=\"https:\/\/letsgopeakdistrict.co.uk\/peak-district-train-station-walks\/?fbclid=IwAR1wy-gWWmbyGFpBZhSddrnws0fflP2ddAJL5unenQIDUWp5GeRoGToelQo\"><em>Hope Valley Train Station Walks<\/em><\/a> that start and finish at the train station in each village. There are gentle ambles that are 4-5 miles long, to more challenging hikes of 7-8 miles.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><strong>Friends of Stations<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each station on the line has a Friends group.
